New Delhi: Indian Army Chief General Manoj Pandey on Wednesday inaugurated a state-of-the-art IT laboratory facility during his visit to Uzbekistan, which also includes a state-of-the-art cyber security laboratory at the Uzbek Academy of Armed Forces, sources said.

Indian Army sources said this development marks a milestone in defense cooperation between the two countries, following the commitment made during the Defense Ministers' meeting in September 2018.

General Pandey is visiting Uzbekistan from April 15-18 to explore new avenues of bilateral military cooperation.

The Defense Ministry had earlier said in a statement that he is scheduled to visit several defense establishments and hold extensive talks with top military officials of the Central Asian nation.

In an important step towards strengthening bilateral relations between India and Uzbekistan, General Pandey inaugurated a high-tech IT laboratory at the Uzbek Academy of Armed Forces, sources said.The laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, consisting of nine rooms including two lecture halls, a state-of-the-art cyber security laboratory, a hardware programming laboratory, an object-oriented programming laboratory, a web programming laboratory, server rooms. A multimedia room and a virtual reality room, he said.

Additional facilities include videoconferencing terminals, interactive panel networking devices, and an assortment of computing devices including essential peripherals such as printers, cameras, scanners, and storage devices, as well as a large number of high-end PCs, workstations, and laptops.

Army sources said the request to set up the IT lab was initially made during the defense ministers' meeting in September 2018 and the project gained momentum with the approval in 2019, which is funded through the External Affairs Ministry's Assistance Eurasia Initiative. it was done.

It was revealed that the bids were higher than the envisaged budget of Rs 6.5 crore, as a result, Rs 8.5 crore was allocated for the project.He said an Indian company won the contract and made the laboratory fully operational on time.
