New Delhi: Armed forces personnel from India, Sri Lanka and Nepal will begin a bike expedition from Lumbini to Colombo along the Buddha Circuit to strengthen ties and promote goodwill between the South Asian countries.

Rahul Patil, co-coordinator of the Heartfulness Buddha Circuit Ride, said the Heartfulness Bike Campaign will be flagged off by Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Buddha Jayanti on May 23 from Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha, and will conclude in Colombo on June 16. (HBCR).

Initiated by the Sri Lankan government in collaboration with the governments of Nepal and India, the HBCR will see 15 bikers from the armed forces of the three countries pass through diverse landscapes and historical sites associated with Gautam Buddha.

The expedition will cover seven states and travel aboard an Indian Navy ship from Chennai to Kankesanthurai in the Jaffna district of Sri Lanka, from where I will travel through the island nation to its capital Colombo.

Patil said Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardene will welcome the riders in Kankesanthurai on the northern tip of the island, while President Rani Wickremesinghe will lead the closing ceremony of the expedition in Colombo on May 16.
