Kathmandu, Anmol Rai has been crowned 'Miss Pink Nepal 2024' in a beauty pageant for transgenders held here on the eve of the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia observed on Friday, May 17.

Pinky Gurung, president of Blue Diamond Society, an organization dedicated to the rights and welfare of the LGBTIQ community, said the competition was organized on Thursday with the aim of strengthening and educating the sexual and gender minority community.

Out of 18 beautifully dressed contestants, the top 10 were selected in the first stage; While during the second round the top five were selected based on a question "Why do you think you are the best ambassador for the LGBTQ community?"

“Growing up as a queer person, I struggled a lot in my childhood. But I got opportunities and platforms because of my family. That's why I want to be the voice of an entire community that is unheard,” replied Anmo, which helped her be declared ‘Miss Pink Nepal 2024’.

Sarosi Neupane was declared the first runner-up and Aarohi Basnet was declared the second runner-up in the competition, which was attended by Hana Singer, UN Resident Coordinator for Nepal, and Dr. Roshan Pokharel, Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Population.

The winner of the pageant will get the opportunity to participate in 'Miss International Queen 2024' to be held in Thailand later this year.
