G Sai Surya Avinash, a student from Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh), Andhra Pradesh, recently accidentally fell into a waterfall in the US and died.
The Consulate General of India in New York said Avinash from Chitalya in East Godavari district drowned in Barberville Falls in Albany, New York on Saturday, July 7.
"We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Trine University student Mr. Sai Surya Avinash Gadde, who drowned in Barberville Falls, Albany, NY on July 7," the Consulate said in a post on Twitter on Tuesday.
Expressing condolences to the family and friends of the deceased student, the Consulate said that it is providing all necessary assistance to bring back the body of Avinash to India.
Meanwhile, a relative from Avinash's hometown Chityala said that he had gone to the US 18 months ago and was close to completing his MS course.
"I am his (Avinash's) uncle and he had gone to America 18 months ago. He is finishing his MS course. He had gone to the waterfall with his friends but accidentally fell into it," the relative told a local news channel. "
Describing Avinash's death as an irreparable loss to his family, he said Telugu Association of North America (TANA) has received his body, which is expected to reach Chityala by Friday.
