Amaravati Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday alleged that substandard ingredients and animal fat were used to make Tirupati laddu, a time-honored sweet, during the previous YSRCP government.

The Tirupati Laddu prasadam is administered at the revered Sri Venkateswara temple in Tirupati, run by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).

"Even the Tirumala laddu was made with substandard ingredients...they used animal fat instead of ghee," Naidu claimed while addressing a meeting of the NDA legislative party here.

The CM claimed that pure ghee was now being used and everything had been sanitized in the temple, which improved the quality.

However, senior YSRCP leader and former TTD president YV Subba Reddy termed Naidu's allegation as "malicious" and said the TDP supremo would "stoop to any level for political gains".

In X, Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh took aim at the Jagan Mohan Reddy administration over the issue.

“Lord Venkateswara Swamy temple in Tirumala is our most sacred temple. I am surprised to know that YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's administration used animal fat instead of ghee in the Tirupati Prasadam,” she said in a post on X.

Targeting the erstwhile YSRCP government, Lokesh alleged that she could not respect the religious sentiments of millions of devotees.

YSRCP leader and Rajya Sabha member Subba Reddy, who served as TTD president for two terms, alleged that Naidu had severely damaged the sanctity of saint Tirumala and the faith of millions of Hindus with his comments.

“His comments on Tirumala prasadam are extremely malicious. No person would say such words or make such allegations,” Subba Reddy said in a post on X.

The former TTD president issued a challenge to the CM that he would take oath on this issue along with his family before the deity to strengthen the faith of the devotees and asked if Naidu would do the same.
