Chandigarh, A meeting has been held in Mohali to discuss and implement the initiative to make Anandpur Sahib parliamentary constituency of Punjab a model of “Green Elections” in the country.

General Supervisor Dr Hira Lal along with Police Supervisor Sandeep Gajanan Deva and Expenditure Monitor Shilpi Sinha held a meeting with all the District Election Officers and other concerned officials of the parliamentary constituency, an official statement here said.

"The objective of this meeting was to discuss and implement the initiative to make Anandpur Sahib a model of green elections in the country," it said.

It said several important decisions were taken during the meeting, including planting of a large number of trees to neutralize the carbon content generated from waste materials and use of plastic during elections.

Additionally, efforts were made to honor the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) with the highest number of votes in each assembly constituency during the 2019 elections to encourage voting in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

General Observer Lal stressed the importance of conducting free, fair and environment-friendly election processes and the need to reduce the use of single-use plastics and maintain cleanliness throughout the election process.

After the meeting, saplings were planted at the District Administrative Complex in Mohali as part of the 'Green Election' initiative.

School children and officials were also administered an oath to plant one sapling each on polling day and avoid single-use plastic, the statement said.

It said these efforts will not only contribute to clean and green elections but also set a positive example for other constituencies.
