The twin blast incident occurred at around 11.55 pm. Due to which the electrical wiring, installation and groceries on the ground floor caught fire. The fire then spread to the upper floor residential area in the congested Ja Maharashtra Nagar of Antop Hill and the local people called the fire brigade.

Although the fire was confined to electrical fittings and installations, a person sleeping on an upper floor was reportedly caught in the flames rising from the grocery store below.

Locals informed the fire brigade personnel that a man, said to be a grocer, was trapped on the upper floor of the chawl, and after a brief battle with the fire, the fire brigade rescued the burnt body of the victim from there. Taken out and taken to Sion Hospital. ,

He was identified as 70-year-old Pannalal Vaishya, who suffered 100 per cent burns in the fire and died before he could be rescued. The cause of the twin gas cylinder explosion-cum-fire is unclear and the Mumbai Police is investigating the tragedy.
