New Delhi: Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets dairy products under the 'Amul' brand, has increased milk prices by about Rs 2 per liter across the country from Monday.

The Rs 2 per liter increase means a 3-4 per cent increase in MRP, which is much lower than the average food inflation, GCMMF said in a statement late last night.

The price increase has been announced after the completion of the voting process of Lok Sabha elections.

GCMMF said it has not increased fresh pouch milk prices in key markets from February 2023 onwards.

"This price increase is being made due to increase in the overall cost of operation and production of milk. Our member unions have increased the compensation to farmers by about 6-8 per cent in the last one year," GCMMF said.

Amul as a policy gives about 80 paise of every rupee paid by consumers for milk and milk products to milk producers.

"The price revision will help maintain remunerative milk prices for our milk producers and encourage them for higher milk production," the statement said.

Amul is the leading milk supplier in the country.
