New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday launched a special program under which the immigration process will be expedited for pre-verified Indian citizens and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card holders.

The Immigration Trusted Traveler Fast Track Program (FTI-TTP) is a "visionary initiative" of the government, carefully designed for Indian citizens and OCI cardholders, Shah said.

The FTI-TTP is similar to the Global Entry Program offered by the United States that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival at select U.S. airports, officials said. The Interior Minister said the initiative will provide more facilities to Indian citizens and OCI passengers coming from other countries.

The launch of the program is one of the key agendas set for 'Viksit Bharat by 2047' and reflects the Narendra Modi government's commitment to improving the convenience and efficiency of travel for all, he added.

Shah said the facility will be available free of cost to all passengers.FTI-TTP will be launched at 21 major airports in the country.

In the first phase, along with Delhi airport, it will be launched in seven major airports: Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi and Ahmedabad.

It is designed for faster, smoother and safer immigration clearance for international travelers. Eligible passengers will be allowed to use electronic gates and avoid regular immigration queues for hassle-free travel.

They will need to apply online and submit their biometric data (fingerprints and facial images), along with other required information as specified in the application form.

The FTI registration will be valid for a maximum of five years or till the validity of the passport, whichever is earlier. A traveler can avail the facilities by applying through the government website, www.ftittp.mha.gov.in, and providing the required details, which will be verified by the Immigration Office.

Approved applications would receive a message to schedule an appointment to provide their biometrics.

Applicants will be able to provide their biometric details at the designated international airports in India or at the nearest Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) as per the appointment schedule. Biometrics are mandatory to complete the application processing.

Applicants can ensure a minimum passport validity of six months when applying for the FTI-TTP.

The programmer's membership will be co-terminal with the validity of the passport. The program will run at electronic gates or automated border gates, which will minimize human intervention in the immigration clearance process, according to an official statement.

The program will be implemented in two phases.

In the first phase, Indian citizens and OCI card holders will be covered and in the second phase, foreign travelers. The objective of the program is to make international travel easy and safe by developing world-class immigration facilities through an accelerated immigration route for international travelers controlled through automatic gates (e-gates).

The FTI-TTP will be implemented through an online portal and the Immigration Bureau will be the nodal agency for expeditious immigration of various categories of travelers under the programme.

After the necessary verification, a White List of "Trusted Travelers" will be generated and fed for implementation through the electronic gates. The biometric data of a "Trusted Traveler" passing through the electronic gates will be captured at the FRRO office or at the time of the registered traveler's passage through the airport. As per the process, as soon as a "registered passenger" arrives at An electronic gate will scan your airline-issued boarding pass to get your flight details.

The passport will also be scanned and the passenger's biometric data will be authenticated at the electronic gate.

Once the passenger's genuine identity is established and biometric authentication is performed, the electronic gate will automatically open and immigration clearance will be deemed to have been granted. The program aims to significantly reduce congestion at airports by offering Expedited immigration for pre-verified travellers, both arriving and departing, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said in a statement.

Delhi Airport Terminal 3 is equipped with eight electronic gates (four for arrivals and four for departures) to facilitate a seamless experience for program participants.

The number of counters may increase depending on the demand, the DIAL said. The Union home ministry also shared a helpdesk email ID: [email protected].
