Gandhinagar, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday filed his nomination papers for the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat from where he is the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate and said the general election is about giving a third term to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Shah submitted his nomination papers to Gandhinagar Collector and District Election Officer M Dave in the state capital at exactly 12.39am, considered 'Vijay Muhurat', when Shah was accompanied by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

Speaking to reporters, Shah said that this general election is about giving a third term to PM Modi so that he can make India a developed country by 2047.

The Union minister said Modi's third term will be important as his first two terms were spent in correcting the mistakes made by the previous Congress-led UP government.

“This election is about making Narendra Modi our Prime Minister for the third time, Modiji has pledged to make India a developed country by 2047 and the number one country in all sectors. The next five years are crucial if we want to achieve this because the last 10 years have taken many years to fill the holes created by the previous UPA government,” Shah said.

The next five years, he said, will be used to build a strong foundation for a 'developing India'.

Thanking the BJP for re-nominating him from this seat, Shah said that this seat is also important because PM Modi is a registered voter from here.

“I have been associated with this seat for the last 30 years. Before becoming an MP, I was an MLA from the assembly constituencies falling under this seat. Thanks to your love, I became a Member of Parliament from an ordinary booth worker. Now, whenever I ask for their votes, the people of Gandhinagar give me their blessings."

He said that in the last five years, development works worth more than Rs 22,000 crore were carried out on Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat.

Shah, a former BJP president, won the Gandhinagar constituency by over 5 lakh votes in the 2019 general elections.

Opposition Congress has fielded party secretary Sonal Patel from Gandhinagar.Voting for all 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat will be held in the third phase on May 7.

Shah held three consecutive road shows covering a distance of about 20 km amid huge fanfare in Gandhinagar on Thursday.

These road shows passed through areas falling under Sanand, Kalol, Sabarmati Ghatlodiya, Naranpura and Vejalpur assembly constituencies of Ahmedabad and Gandhinaga districts, which are part of the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat.

At the end of the last road show in Ahmedabad, Shah also addressed a large gathering in Vejalpur area and appealed to the voters to ensure BJP's victory.
