Guwahati (Assam) [India], The four-day annual Ambubachi Mela at the historic Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati will begin from June 22.

Ambubachi Fair is an annual Hindu fair held at the historic Kamakhya Temple, and is a celebration of the annual menstruation of Goddess Mother Kamakhya.

Kamakhya Temple situated atop the Neelachal Hills is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths of the country.

The Government of Assam and the Kamakhya Temple Management Committee have made all the arrangements for the Ambubachi fair.

Kabindra Prasad Sarma, doloi (chief priest) of the historic temple, said the Assam government and the district administration have also extended their support including security, transportation, food etc.

''This year the Ambubachi fair will be closed on June 22 at 8-45 am and after the closing ceremony the main gate of the temple will be closed for three days and three nights. Ambubachi fair will be closed on 26th June. The main gate will be closed for three days and three nights. After this the temple will be opened on the morning of 26th June.

"Last year, around 25 lakh devotees visited the temple during the Ambubachi fair and we are hopeful that the number will increase this year," Sarma said.

He further said that, for security, 500 CCTVs will be installed on the roadside and other places.

"So far, 300 CCTVs have been installed in the temple premises and 500 more CCTVs will be installed. Preparation work is going on. Last week, a meeting was held with the Chief Secretary of the state government. For Ambubachi, we have also constituted an impartial A special committee,” Sarma said.

Vivek Kumar Shukla, a devotee from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, told ANI that people from different parts of the country have come here to seek blessings from Goddess Kamakhya and feel peace.

“The annual Ambubachi fair will start from June 22 this year too and it is a historical place,” Shukla said.
