Kota: Police have registered a case against unidentified persons for allegedly damaging the statue of India's first Law Minister BR Ambedkar in a village here. An official gave this information on Sunday.

Circle Officer Beni Prasad said villagers found the statue, built on government land in Barodia village, with its head missing on Sunday morning and contacted the police.

He said that perhaps this is a mischievous act creating social tension.

Police have registered a case under section 295 of the Indian Penal Code (defiling a place of worship).

When news of damage to the Dalit icon's statue spread, Bhim Army workers reached the spot and protested.
