Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) officials have said, "There has been no decline in the number of pilgrims coming for this year's Amarnath Yatra and the rush of enthusiastic pilgrims continues."

Till Thursday, more than 2.66 crore devotees had darshan inside the holy cave since the opening ceremony started on June 29. This includes over 10,000 pilgrims who used helicopter services from the South and North base camps to reach the cave temple.

The cave temple has an ice structure that waxes and wanes with the phases of the moon. Devotees believe that this ice structure symbolizes the mythological powers of Lord Shiva.

This cave is located in the Kashmir Himalayas at an altitude of 3,888 meters above sea level. Devotees reach the cave temple either through the traditional South Kashmir Pahalgam route or the North Kashmir Baltal route.

The Pahalgam-cave temple axis is 48 km long and devotees take 4-5 days to reach the temple. The Baltal-Cave pilgrimage axis is 14 km long and it takes a day for the pilgrims to have 'darshan' and return to the base camp.

On Friday, 4434 passengers left for Kashmir in two security convoys from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu.

The first security convoy carrying 1,721 pilgrims in 64 vehicles left for the north Kashmir Baltal base camp at 3 am. The second security convoy carrying 2,713 pilgrims in 101 vehicles left for South Kashmir Nunwan (Pahalgam) base camp at 3.35 am.

This year's yatra will end after 52 days on August 29 with the Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan festivals.
