Thane: Parents of a nine-year-old boy from Shahpur in Thane district of Maharashtra have complained to the police that doctors at a government hospital wrongly performed surgery on his private part instead of his injured leg.

Following his allegation, a health official assured an investigation into the episode and police said they were investigating.

The minor's parents said, "Last month he suffered a leg injury when he was playing with his friends. He was admitted to the sub-district hospital in Shahpur on June 15 and is undergoing treatment." "The doctors recently performed circumcision surgery." On his private parts instead of the injured leg.”

Later, upon realizing their mistake, doctors immediately performed surgery on his injured leg, he told reporters.

The parents also lodged a complaint with the Shahpur police. Although no case has been registered in this regard so far, a police officer said the complaint is under investigation.

District Civil Surgeon Dr. Kailash Pawar said that health officials will investigate the allegations.

Hospital medical officer Gajendra Pawar told reporters that apart from the leg injury, the boy also suffered from phimosis (tight foreskin).

“We had to do two operations,” he said.

Regarding informing the parents about the second operation, he said that the doctor may have forgotten to tell them or may have told other relatives of the patient.

What the doctors did was right and there was nothing wrong in it. But the parents refused to accept the explanations given by the doctors, Pawar said.

Doctors said that on the same day, two patients of the same age group underwent surgery at the hospital.
