AGARTALA: The Tripura government has taken all possible steps to implement the three new criminal laws, a senior official said on Saturday.

Three new criminal laws – the Indian Justice Code, the Indian Civil Defense Code, and the Indian Evidence Act – will replace the Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure Act, and the Indian Evidence Act, respectively, on July 1.

"The state government has taken all possible steps to implement the three newly enacted criminal laws - the Indian Civil Code (BNS), the Indian Civil Defense Code (BNSS) and the Indian Evidence Act (BSA) - along with the rest of the country from July 1. The move will "improve the judiciary, speedy justice and protect the interests of victims," ​​Tripura Home Secretary P K Chakraborty said at a press conference.

He said the Home Department has already completed training programs for all stakeholders including law enforcement agencies, social welfare department and law department.

He said, "3,010 officers have already received training on the implementation of the three newly enacted criminal laws. Besides this, 500 officers of the Health and Family Welfare Department have also received training. Training cum awareness programs were conducted from district to village level. Will be done." Said.

Responding to a question on the fate of the existing cases, Law Secretary Sanjay Bhattacharya said all ongoing cases will be proceeded under the "old laws" as the new laws focus on the "date of occurrence".

"If any crime occurs before midnight of June 30, the police will register a case under the existing laws - IPC and CrPC," he said.

However, hundreds of lawyers under the banner of All India Lawyers Union (AILU) took out protest rallies in the court premises demanding withdrawal of the three newly enacted criminal laws.
