GUWAHATI: The Assam government's 'Jal Doot' programme, which recognizes the role of students in water conservation, will be emulated in all schools under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in the country, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Friday.

Posting a CBSE circular in this regard on Twitter, Sarma said: "Another novel #AssamPolicy initiative gets more attention and followers!"

"CBSE has directed all its schools to implement 'Jal Doot', the brainchild of the Assam government. This practical program involves students in community efforts for water conservation," he said.

Jal Doot Programme, under the 'Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain' campaign of the Central Government, focuses on rain water harvesting, water conservation, intensive afforestation and other allied activities.

The CBSE circular said, “This nationwide movement can significantly boost India's efforts towards sustainable water use, environment conservation, climate resilience and engaging young minds in the mass movement for fresh ideas and youth energy "

Officials said JJM-Assam has launched the initiative under which students from classes 8 to 12 are made 'student champions' who take up piped water supply schemes in their locality along with other activities like water conservation. Provide evaluation.
