New Delhi: Artificial intelligence and machine learning can boost efficiency and innovation but can also raise concerns related to market concentration and potential anti-competitive behaviour, according to CCI chief Ravneet Kaur.

Watchdog CCI, which has the mandate to curb anti-competitive practices and promote fair competition, will soon launch a study to look at all aspects of artificial intelligence (AI).

I expect to release a request for proposal (RFP) in the coming weeks to invite agencies to conduct the study.

In a recent interview with PTI, the Competition Commission of India (CCI chairperson Ravneet Kaur) said the study will also look at how AI can be used by the regulator.

“The rise of AI and machine learning (ML) presents both opportunities and challenges in the competition law context.

"These technologies may promote efficiency, personalization and innovation but may also raise concerns related to market concentration and potentially anti-competitive behaviour," he said.

Kaur also stressed that the regulator is closely monitoring these developments to ensure that the competition framework remains robust and able to address these new dynamics.

Talking about the study, he said it aims to explore how AI is reshaping market dynamics, explore the challenges of AI to the existing competition law framework and formulate policies that address the impact of AI on competition. Address effectively.

CCI is also taking enforcement actions and advocacy measures along with other activities to tackle anti-competitive practices.
