The latest seizure took place around 11 am on Monday when soldiers of the 14 battalion received intelligence about a suspected attempt to smuggle gold in an empty Indian truck that was returning from Bangladesh. The vehicle was stopped at Integrated Check Post (ICP) Petrapole and two gold biscuits were recovered from the driver's cabin. The driver has been identified as Rajuddi Mandal of Bhashanpota village in West Bengal, India.

Mondal said he had gone to Bangladesh on April 6 with an export consignment from India. While leaving with an empty truck, he was given two round biscuits by a man named Ronnie Mondal in Benapole, Bangladesh. The driver was to receive Rs 2,000 for handing over the gold to a person at the parking lot on the Indian side. He has been handed over to the Customs Department of BSF along with the gold.

“On Saturday, BSF seized four gold biscuits from another smuggler at ICP Petrapole. The price of gold weighing 466.63 grams was Rs 32,96,741. The smuggler was identified as Hridayoy of Munshiganj, Bangladesh. He had allegedly bought the gold in Bangladesh for 40 lakh Bangladeshi taka (about Rs 30.41 lakh in Indian currency) and was to hand it over to someone at a hotel near Suder Street in Kolkata,” said AK Arya, DIG and spokesperson, BSF. .
