A BJP source told ANI: "The BJP has started making preparations for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. The party is going to start many outreach programs after the budget session to reach out to the people of the Territory of the Union. Preliminary Discussions are taking place.

Leaders of all 10 districts of the Jammu region have been asked to re-engage and show their presence on the ground to ensure better results in the upcoming Assembly elections.

"The BJP high command has directed the party unit in J-K to fully prepare for the upcoming assembly elections with region-specific strategies," the party further said, adding that "an important BJP Jammu and Kashmir Core meeting The meeting was held at the party headquarters and lasted for about three hours. During the meeting a whole discussion on preparations for the upcoming elections took place.”

In this meeting, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president JP Nadda, BJP national general secretary (org) BL Santosh, BJP J-K in-charge Tarun Chugh, BJP J-K elections G Kishan Reddy, BJP J-K election co-in-charge Ashish Sood, BJP J-K state president Ravindra Raina, BJP J-K general secretary Ashok Kaul and BJP leaders Devendra Maniyal and Vivod Gupta were present at the meeting.

"This time there was deep brainstorming and contemplation on how to form a BJP government in Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP will reach out to the people by highlighting the benefits of central schemes and development work. Union Ministers will go to Jammu and Kashmir later. according to the polls," the party source added.

The party will also reach out to the Pahari community, Gujar-Bakarwal and Other Backward Classes (OBC) communities. The results of the recent Lok Sabha elections were also discussed during the meeting, the party source added.

The party high command also congratulated the state leaders for their good performance in the Jammu and Kashmir Lok Sabha elections.

"Union Minister JP Nadda will arrive in Jammu on July 6 to attend the BJP working committee meeting. There he will hold talks with the party workers and leaders. This meeting is also considered very important before the elections "said the party source, adding that "Any organizational change or membership drive will not be carried out until the assembly elections."

Notably, J-K is likely to see its first Assembly election in September this year, as per the schedule set by the Supreme Court after the erstwhile state's special status was scrapped in 2019. The last assembly election in the former state was held in 2014.

The BJP-led government abrogated Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019 and bifurcated the state into two union territories. Political parties have demanded early assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and restoration of statehood. Earlier, the Supreme Court had asked the Election Commission of India and the Center to conduct elections before September.
