The Civil Aviation Ministry has issued an advisory to airlines after a section of Terminal 1 roof collapsed at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, warning them not to impose "abnormal additional surcharges" on flights to and from Delhi.

"In view of the unfortunate incident at Terminal T1D IGIA, Delhi, all airlines are advised to monitor any abnormal increase in airfares to and from Delhi and take necessary action in this regard. Also, cancellations and rescheduling of flights due to the incident can be made without criminal charges," the Ministry said in a post on X.

In another important decision taken during the meeting, a 24/7 War Room will be established under the close supervision of the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

This War Room aims to expedite full refunds for canceled flights, guaranteeing processing within 7 days.

Additionally, the Ministry has directed the Airports Authority of India to circulate a directive to all major and minor airports, mandating thorough inspections of structural integrity.

Structural engineers from IIT Delhi were also asked to immediately assess the incident at T 1 in Delhi.

A more detailed examination will be decided based on your initial findings.

Similarly, the AAI will have the Jabalpur incident examined.

Earlier, the Ministry of Civil Aviation stopped all flights departing from Terminal 1 of Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport.

At approximately 5 a.m. On Friday morning, a portion of the roof sheeting and its supporting pillars collapsed, killing one person and injuring at least six others.

This incident severely disrupted flight operations at the airport, which is among the busiest in the world.

Soon after the incident, Naidu rushed to the airport and inspected the spot.

Speaking to the media, the Minister said: "We will carry out a thorough check on all airports that fall under our jurisdiction...we will make the necessary report and see if an independent body is necessary for this."

After inspecting the spot, the minister said, "We have asked the Delhi International Airport Limited to do verification and inspection on their part. But we are not leaving it to them. From the Ministry, we have the DGCA, which takes care of en the security aspect, who will supervise this inspection and present his report."
