Mumbai, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday tore into the Congress election manifesto and termed it a "Maoist" document, warning that if implemented it would stunt the country's economic growth and lead it to bankruptcy.

He said that if Congress had been dissolved after independence as per Mahatma Gandhi's wish, India would have been five decades ahead in terms of social and economic development compared to today.

Addressing an election rally in Mumbai, three days before the fifth and final phase of Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra on 13 seats, the veteran BJP leader fiercely attacked the Congress over its election manifesto. "Congress is fighting for its existence. And can go to any extent to save itself. Its Maoist manifesto has its eyes on the gold of temples and the mangalsutra (gold chains) of women. The Maoist manifesto will curb economic growth and lead the country to bankruptcy,” he told the gathering at the sprawling Shivaji Park grounds.

The PM had earlier said that the election document of Congress has the imprint of Muslim League.

The BJP's star campaigner alleged that the grand old party wants to bring back the BAC inheritance tax (levy on property inherited from a deceased person), which was abolished in the 1980s. is also planning... The party is planning to X-ray your assets and hand it over to its vote-bank which talks about vote jihad."

Modi asked the people of Mumbai to remember the terror attacks and serial bomb attacks that rocked the metropolis in the past when they go to vote on May 20. "In the last ten years, they (Mumbaiites) have been feeling safe," the Prime Minister said at a rally organized in the metropolis to seek votes for the Shiv Sena-BJP candidates. Taking a dig at the Uddhav Thackeray-led party, Modi said That "fake" Shiv Sen betrayed the people's mandate and worked against the interest of Mumba and Maharashtra."The fake Shiv Sena has betrayed Balasaheb Thackeray by standing with those who abused Ram Mandir and (Hindutva icon Veer) Savarkar," he said.

"I will give Mumbai its due," he declared. The days are not far when Mumbai will get India's first bullet train. The PM said the financial capital has emerged as a hub of start-ups. He said, “Today there are 8,000 start-ups in Mumbai.India is the second largest mobile manufacturing hub."

"Mumbai is the economic powerhouse of the country and the stock exchange headquartered in the metropolis is now the fourth largest stock exchange in the world, but the INDI alliance is conspiring to break the trust," he alleged.

Mumbai knows the importance of speed. .The countries that gained independence with you have gone ahead of us in terms of development. Where have we fallen behind? It was the previous governments that did not trust their people. If you look at the Red Fort addresses of earlier prime ministers, they had called Indians lazy.

Modi said when Congress lost power at the Center in 2014, India's economy was at 11th position, but now it has reached 5th position.

“If the Congress had been dissolved as per Gandhiji's wishes, India would have been five decades ahead of what it is today. We lost five decades because of Congress. When we got independence, India was the sixth largest economy and when the Congress left power in 2014, it was at the 11th position," he said. He added, "Indians spent Rs 500 crore for the construction of the grand temple of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya. Struggled for years. Disappointed people and people in despair also said that it was impossible to remove Article 37, but it was removed. No power in the world can bring back Article 370." Claimed.

Without naming NCP (SP) president Sharad Pawar, Modi said, "I challenge the NC leader to tell (Congress MP) Rahul Gandhi that he will not abuse Savarka again. The INDI alliance has given a clean chit to the terrorist. Betrayed the country."
