New Delhi [India], after taking over as president of the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), Kapil Dev, former World Cup-winning cricket captain of India, said it will now fall on his shoulders much more responsibility.

Earlier on Thursday, Kapil Dev took charge as PGTI president. This development marks a new chapter for the PGTI, the governing body of men's professional golf in India.

Speaking to ANI, Kapil Dev said that he feels very happy after being the new president of PGTI. He added that they must ensure that the players are given more games.

"I am very happy, I have a lot more responsibility on my shoulders. Now I have to make sure that all the players know that we can take care of them and give them more golf, so it is more responsibility now," said Kapil Dev.

He also asked the business world to come out and organize their tournaments with the PGTI.

"That's what we like to do. Look, in winter there are a lot of corporate gold competitions held around the country and I would say that something similar should happen with the main PGTI gold tournaments. Still, it's a problem... "We would ask more companies around the world to go out and try to organize their own tournaments with PGTI," he added.

Earlier, PGTI CEO Uttam Singh Mundy said that it is an honor for them to have Indian sports icon Kapil Dev take over as president of the organisation.

"We are confident that the PGTI will reach greater heights under the astute leadership of Kapil Dev as his name has been synonymous with excellence in sports. His valuable experience as a professional sportsman and accomplished golfer will be an asset to the PGTI, paving the way for further growth of Indian professional golf. We wish Kapil Dev every success," Uttam said, according to a statement.

Kapil Dev, who has also distinguished himself as an amateur golfer, has been the vice-president and member of the governing body of PGTI for the last three years and has played a pivotal role in shaping and developing Indian professional golf along with the core team of PGTI .
