New Delhi: The Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) on Thursday joined hands with IIT-Kanpur to conduct research and develop new technologies to address health issues faced by soldiers in difficult terrain.

The MoU between the two parties was signed by AFMS Director General Lt GE Daljit Singh and Acting Director, IIT-Kanpur, Professor S Ganesh, the Defense Ministry said in a statement.

Under this MoU, they will 'conduct research and develop new technologies to address health issues faced by soldiers in difficult terrain'.

IIT-Kanpur will also provide technical expertise to develop AI diagnostic models at the Armed Forces Center for Computational Medicine established at the Arm Forces Medical College, the first of its kind among medical colleges in India, the statement said.

Faculty exchange programmes, joint academy activities and development of training modules will also be planned within the scope of this MoU.

Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen Singh pointed out that AFMS is dedicated to providing the highest level of medical care to soldiers and collaboration with institutions of national importance like IITs is an important step towards this commitment.

Professor Ganesh stressed the need for inter-professional collaboration for computational medicine and the use of advanced technologies such as AI and healthcare.
