Chennai: A large number of lawyers on Friday protested in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu against the Sanskritised Hindi names of three new criminal laws that came into effect from July 1 across the country and demanded their immediate withdrawal.

The AIADMK's advocate wing, led by its secretary IS Inabadurai, protested in front of the Madras High Court against the three new criminal laws replacing the Indian Penal Code - the Indian Judicial Code, the Indian Evidence Act and the Indian Civil Defense Code. Former MLA Inabadurai later told reporters that these laws should be immediately repealed as they would create confusion.

DMK advocate wing secretary N R Elango, who led a similar protest here, alleged that these three criminal laws are "anti-democracy and anti-constitutional because they are named in Sanskrit which is not in accordance with Article 348." May go."

"Not only that, they are against the interests of persons accused of crime and victims of crime. Therefore, they cannot be implemented. They have to be abolished and reconsidered," Elango told reporters.

He said, Parliament will have to make an effort to reconsider these laws. Otherwise, the legal wing of DMK and the lawyers fraternity of Tamil Nadu will not rest, he said.
