Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday decided to ban open buying and selling of meat along the Kanwar Yatra route during the holy month of Shravan beginning on July 22.

In view of the upcoming festivals, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed the preparations related to law and order and successful organization of these festivals and gave necessary guidelines to the officials, an official statement said.

Adityanath said, "The holy month of Shravan begins on July 22. During this period, Shravani Shivratri, Nagpanchami and Rakshabandhan will be celebrated. The traditional Kanwar Yatra will be held."

Additionally, Jagannath Rath Yatra will be celebrated from July 7 to 9, Moharram from July 17 to 18 and Guru Purnima on July 21, the statement said.

In the wake of these festivals, "everyone needs to be alert and cautious," Adityanath told officials at the review meeting.

He also said that from the point of view of traditional Kanwar Yatra, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Ayodhya, Bareilly, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Barabanki, Basti and districts bordering Uttarakhand are very important.

The local administration should maintain coordination between districts within the state and between districts bordering other states, the CM said.

"Traditionally, music and dance have been a part of the Kanwar Yatra. Ensure that the sound of the DJ, music, etc., meets the prescribed standards," he said.

Adityanath ordered that "respecting the faith of the devotees", there should be no "open buying or selling of meat" anywhere on the Kanwar Yatra route.

"Cleanliness and disinfection should be maintained on the Yatra route. There should be good arrangement of street lighting," he said.

Arrangements for crowd management, route diversion and deployment of police force and CCTV cameras should be made on time, the CM said.

Adityanath also said that during the month of Shravan, a large number of devotees visit Shiva temples on Mondays in every village, town and city. In such a situation, the environment around Shiva temples should be clean, he said.

The Panchayati Raj and the Urban Development Department should take necessary steps in this regard, he said, adding that it should be ensured that banned polythene bags are not used at all.

Locations for setting up camps in Kanwar should be identified in advance so that traffic is not disrupted, the statement said.

Regarding Muharram, Adityanath said the local administration should establish dialogue and coordination with the peace committees associated with the Tazia displayed during the Muharram procession.

Taking lessons from last year's Tazia processions, when some accidents occurred, the government ordered that all necessary arrangements be made this year to avoid such incidents.

"The height of the Tazias should be traditional. Unnecessarily oversized Tazias, which may cause accidents, should not be included in the procession," Adityanath said.

The CM ordered that no weapons be displayed in yatras/religious processions in the state.

He also ordered that Tazias should be retained only when there are no disputes of any kind.

Adityanath directed officials to keep an eye on mischievous elements and said, "Naughty elements may make malicious attempts to unnecessarily provoke people from other communities. Be aware of such elements. We have to remain alert all the time, so that no one can violate security. Monitor with drones too.

He said that as the rainy season has begun, emergency health services must be on alert mode.

"Communicable disease control drive and Chalo Abhiyan school will also be organized. It is clear that the month starting from tomorrow is important and sensitive in many aspects including law and order, medicine, health and education. “Everyone should be alert and cautious,” the CM said.

He added that all necessary arrangements should be made in time for the convenience of devotees attending the Shravan fair in Ayodhya.
