New Delhi, Filmmaker Aditya Sarpotdar, who is currently enjoying the success of his latest horror-comedy "Munjya", said the story has sequel potential.

And if that happens, audiences will get to see an upgraded version of Munjya, the young ghost at the center of the story, which revolves around a Marathi folk tale.

"You will get an upgraded version of him in the sequel of the film because it will have a bigger budget," Sarpotdar told reporters here.

The film starring Mona Singh, Sharvari and Abhay Verma is performing well at the box office and has collected over Rs 20 crore in the first weekend of its release.

The director and his team with DNEG worked for over a year to create a terrifying and mischievous hero using computer-generated imagery (CGI).He was confident that his role of a young man possessed by the spirit of Munjya would appeal to people as the story was rooted in Indian legends.

The filmmaker said, "Just like we saw 'Kantara' which dealt with an area we didn't know about, 'Munjya' gave me confidence that people would like it and Maddock supported our film, we Was very happy."

Sharvari, who plays a pivotal role in the film, is happy that she is now getting interesting projects, be it "Munjya" or her role in the upcoming YRF Spy Universe.

“I feel confident and I am grateful. I am going to do my next project with more confidence now because it stars my favorite actress Alia Bhatt. For an actress who is just one film old, to be a part of two such big projects Maddock Horror Universe and YRF Spy Universe (is great),” she said.

Varma said that working on the film was not just an opportunity but a "blessing".

He said, "Anyone would like to wait for such opportunities and this wait lasted for one and a half years for me."

"Munjya" released last Friday.
