New Delhi, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) on Friday said it has won a five-year operations and maintenance (O&M) contract for the container facility at Syama Prasad Mukherjee Port in Kolkata.

With this, APSEZ will have to deploy cargo handling equipment within seven months from the date of letter of acceptance (LOA), the company said in a statement.

"APSEZ won the five-year O&M contract through a competitive bidding process, which mandates the successful bidder to deploy the cargo handling equipment within seven months from the date of the Letter of Acceptance (LOA)," the statement said.

It added, “The presence of the APSEZ at the docks is likely to improve connectivity between the terminal and its container ports, especially with the transshipment hubs at Vizhinjam and Colombo, which are targeted to be commissioned during the year "

Netaji Subhash Dock is the largest container terminal on the east coast of India.

It handled approximately 0.63 million TEU ((Twenty Foot Equivalent Unit) in FY 2023-24, covering West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Assam, North Eastern Hill States and the landlocked neighbors of Nepal and Bhutan. Served a vast interior area.

Kolkata Port is the nominated port for the India-Bangladesh Protocol on Inland Water Transit and Trade Routes. Netaji Subhash Dock receives regular liner service calls from the hub ports of Singapore, Port Keylong and Colombo.
