Prominent Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, his close friend Pavitra Gowda and 11 of their associates were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the murder.

Renukaswamy, a resident of the district headquarters town of Chitradurga, a fan of the 47-year-old actor, had reportedly commented on the social media account of small-time actress Gowda, accusing him of creating a rift between the actor and her. In 2011, Darshan was arrested by the police for assaulting his wife and threatening her. He was later released on bail and the couple later resolved the issue and they withdrew the case against him.

Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) president N M Suresh said a decision regarding action against Darshan would be taken after discussions with the artistes' association.

He indicated that action would probably be taken only after the police files the charge sheet in the case.
