New Delhi: Suspended JD(U) MP Prajwal Revanna, accused of sexually assaulting multiple women, has time till June 2 to respond to the show cause notice served by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for cancellation of his diplomatic passport. Is. Appropriate action will be taken.

The Ministry of External Affairs said this on Thursday ahead of his possible return from Germany to India on May 31.

On May 23, the Ministry of External Affairs sent a show cause notice to Revanna asking why his diplomatic passport should not be canceled as sought by the Karnataka government in view of the sexual harassment allegations against him.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "We received a request from the Government of Karnataka on May 21. On May 23, as per the Indian Passport Act, we initiated action to cancel the (diplomatic) passport of Member of Parliament Prajwal Revanna.,

"On May 23, we issued them a show cause notice. They have to respond to the notice within 10 days. We are waiting for their response. Accordingly, we will take things forward after hearing from them or the 10-day period is over." After receiving the letter from the Karnataka government, the Ministry of External Affairs has started the process of canceling Prajwal's passport.

Last week, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah wrote a second letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urged him to take "prompt and necessary" action to cancel Prajwal's diplomatic passport.

The Chief Minister had sent a similar letter to the Prime Minister on May 1.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Karnataka government to probe sexual abuse allegations against Prajwal had written to the Ministry of External Affairs to cancel his diplomatic passport after a local court issued an arrest warrant against him.Following the SIT's request, a 'Blue Corner Notice' seeking information about Revanna's whereabouts has already been issued by Interpol.

Earlier this month, Jaiswal said that Prajwal traveled to Germany on a diplomatic passport and he did not seek political clearance for the trip.

Prajwal's father and former Karnataka minister HD Revanna was also booked for sexual harassment and criminal intimidation. He is currently out on bail.
