Colombo, Sri Lanka Police on Thursday said they have captured one of the accomplices of four of their nationals arrested in India, who was on an alleged mission to carry out terrorist activities there at the behest of the banned Islamic State.

Police said the associate, who is the son of a well-known drug lord, was arrested from the Central Colombo ward of Maligawatta and is being interrogated continuously at the Terrorist Investigation Division of the police.

Earlier on Wednesday, a senior Deputy Inspector General was appointed to head the team investigating four Sri Lankan nationals arrested by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in India on Sunday after acting on a tip-off at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport. was appointed. Ahmedabad.

Investigators said the four men had taken an IndiGo flight from Colombo to Chennai on May 19.

Indian police said that these people had come to India to carry out terrorist activities on the orders of banned terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) and they are members of the organization radicalized by a Sri Lankan leader who is living in Pakistan.

The police have a Criminal Investigation Division and Terrorist Investigation Division under the appointed DIG and will coordinate with intelligence agencies in the investigation.

The accused, Mohammed Nusrat (35), Mohammed Farooq (35), Mohammed Nafran (27) and Mohammed Rasdeen (43), informed investigators that they were previously associated with the banned Sri Lankan fundamentalist terrorist organisation, Nation Thowheeth Jamaat (NJT), and were from Gujarat. Director General of Police Vikas Sahay said that he joined IS after coming in contact with Pakistani handler Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

The men were paid Rs 4 lakh in Sri Lankan currency for carrying out the activities described by them.
