Ayodhya (UP), Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Thursday condemned the expulsion of eight students of Narendra Dev University of Agriculture and Technology here for protesting over the suicide of an MSc student.

ABVP national secretary Ankit Shukla said the wing strongly opposes the "authoritarian" actions of Vice Chancellor Bijendra Singh and demands immediate restoration of admissions of students.

On May 13, Yashpal, a research student, committed suicide after his guide rejected his thesis, which he had submitted for approval, university spokesperson Ashutosh Singh said.

After the incident, some students took issue with it, saying that the university administration expelled eight students for their involvement in a protest on June 21.

Shukla warned of widespread agitation if the university administration did not restore the admission of students within 48 hours.

He said protests would continue against the Vice Chancellor's "dictatorship" and to get justice for Yashpal.

ABVP workers had on Wednesday protested in front of Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi when he had come to the university campus to attend a conference.

The protesting students also raised slogans against the Vice Chancellor in the presence of Shahi.

ABVP National Executive Council member Rishabh Gupta said, "The vice-chancellor is involved in corruption and is protected by some political personalities, thereby promoting anarchy within the educational institution."
