Indore, Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Thursday said mobile phone penetration in the country is 70-80 per cent of citizens and around 120 crore devices are currently in use.

Scindia told reporters, now the priority is to increase the scope of 4G network in the country.

Scindia said, for the first time, India has built a 4G stack with indigenous technology and on the basis of this, efforts are being made to take the coverage to 100 percent.

Scindia, who is also the Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region, said he will visit Assam and Meghalaya from Friday.

He said, "We will make a strategy for the development of the North-Eastern states based on their strengths and capabilities. For this, decisions will be taken after meeting with the respective state governments."

Avoiding giving a direct answer to the question of how the central government will deal with the moral conflict in Manipur, Scindia only said that he will fulfill his responsibility for the development of the North East.

"It has already been decided that at least 10 per cent of the gross budgetary support (GBS) of central government departments will be spent for the development of north-eastern states," Scindia said.

Scindia, who came to Indore to participate in the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, said that this campaign is very important to deal with climate change.

The campaign, which began on June 5 and will end on July 14, aims to plant saplings across the country, including 51 lakh saplings in Indore.

Scindia said, "This campaign will create a world record for planting trees in the country."
