Citing a news report, Bajwa said that six doctors posted in government hospitals in Bathinda have resigned in less than two months.

He cited family reasons behind leaving his post.

However, news reports cite some sources and say that many doctors feel overburdened in the government system.

“Presenting the pitiful state of the health system in Punjab, another news report said that against 121 sanctioned posts of doctors, half of them, 56 including the posts of SMOs, are lying vacant in Firozpur and Zira sub-divisions.

"Similarly, in Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's home district Sangrur, 85 posts out of 117 medical officers were lying vacant," Bajwa said.

Senior Congress leader Bajwa said Rs 650 crore has not been released by the central government under the National Health Mission due to the ongoing standoff between the Union Health Ministry and the AAP government in Punjab.

"Ahead of the assembly elections in Punjab in 2022, both AAP supremo and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann had promised to provide better health facilities in the state. On the contrary, ever since AAP took power Health services have deteriorated, Bajwa said, "Health services in Punjab have collapsed badly during the rule of the AAP government."

Bajwa said that AAP has also guaranteed to provide free medicines, operations and tests. It also promised to make health cards for all citizens.
