“It is clear that all is not well in the functioning of our Parliament and Legislatures at present. These temples of democracy are bearing the brunt of strategic disruptions and unrest. Communication between the parties is missing. This is necessary and there can be no escape from it,” the Vice President said.

He said that there should be friendly cooperative dialogue between all sections of the House, inter-party dialogue is missing and the way you address it, the level of dialogue is disgusting.

“Instead of being cordial, it is confrontational, conviviality is being displaced due to adversarial attitudes. Democratic politics is witnessing a new low and there is tension and stress,” the Vice President said.

In his address in both the houses of Maharashtra Legislature, he said that along with democratic values, parliamentary traditions also need to be strictly followed in our legislatures.

“Dignity and discipline are the heart and soul of democracy. The strength of democracy lies in the diversity of ideas and the ability to find common ground through constructive engagement,” he said.

The Vice President said that this is a system that thrives on dialogue, debate, discussion and deliberations.

“MPs are not part of the debating society. They are not concerned with who wins the debate as they are pursuing a common objective and hence I strongly commend the MPs and those present in the legislature for contributing with humanity, nobility and humility,” They said.
