A Naxalite was killed in an encounter with security personnel on Saturday in the forests bordering Dhamtari and Gariaband districts in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

Dhamtari Superintendent of Police Anjaneya Varshney said that the encounter took place in the afternoon when a team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) from Dhamtari was out on an anti-Naxal operation on the inter-district border.

He said that after the firing stopped, the body of a Naxalite was recovered from the incident site, located more than 150 km from the capital Raipur.

The officer said that the deceased has not been identified yet and a search is being conducted in the surrounding areas.

So far this year, 104 Naxalites have been killed in separate encounters with security forces in the state.

On Friday, security forces killed 12 Naxalites in a 12-hour operation in Bijapur district.
