Sukma, A Naxalite was killed in an encounter with security personnel in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Saturday.

The firing took place in the morning on a wooded hill between Tolnai and Tetrai villages, when a team of security personnel was out on an anti-Naxal operation, a police officer said.

He said that the operation was started on Friday night based on information about the presence of Naxalites in the area.

He said that after the firing stopped, the body of a Naxalite, a muzzle loading gun and a cache of explosives were recovered from the spot.

The officer said that the dead Naxalite has not been identified yet and the search operation is still going on in the surrounding areas.

With this incident, 105 Naxalites have been killed in different encounters with security forces in the state this year.

On May 10, a total of 12 Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Bijapur district.

On April 30, ten Naxalites, including three women, were killed in a similar encounter in the forest on the border of Narayanpur and Kanker districts.

Police said 29 Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces in Kanker district on April 16.
