GURUGRAM: Members of a sextortion gang allegedly duped a man of over Rs 78,000 here, police said on Thursday.

According to the complaint lodged by the man, on April 30, he received a video call on WhatsApp from a girl who was in a nude state. He later convinced her to remove her clothes during a video call and recorded it.

“After some time, I got a call from a mobile number who introduced himself as a crime branch officer. He asked me to give Rs 20,000 and threatened me that he would circulate my nude video clip on social media,” he said in the complaint.

“I transferred Rs 20,000 but he then told me I would have to pay if I wanted to get the clip deleted. After this I got scared and transferred Rs 58,999 again to a mobile UPI number. Later, I found that I was cheated and went to the police", the complainant said in his complaint.

An FIR was registered under IPC sections 419 (fraud by impersonation), 420 (cheating) at the Cyber ​​Crime, West police station on Wednesday, police said.

A senior police officer said that they are trying to identify the accused.
