Gwalior: A man and his two teenage daughters were burnt to death in a massive fire that broke out in a three-storey house in Gwalior city of Madhya Pradesh early Thursday. A fire officer gave this information.

The incident happened around 3 in the morning. Fire officer Atibal Singh Yadav said the fire broke out due to a short circuit in the kitchen on the third floor and engulfed the entire building located in Bahodapur area.

He said that Vijay Gupta (45) and his two daughters Anshika (17) and Yashika (14) were burnt to death in the fire.

As soon as the information was received, fire personnel from the local body as well as the nearby Air Force station reached the spot. They managed to enter the house by breaking the wall and tried to rescue the people trapped inside. However, the father-daughter trio were already dead, he said.

Yadav said firefighters brought the fire under control after more than two hours of efforts, during which several water tankers were used.

Gupta's elder brother, Suresh Gupta, said he rushed to the spot immediately after being alerted, but was unable to save his brother and two nieces due to the severity of the fire.

When the fire broke out, Gupta's wife and his son were at their in-laws' house elsewhere, he said.

The officer said that the police have registered the case and are investigating the incident.
