Thane: A case has been registered against nine people for allegedly stopping the work of laying power lines in a village in Thane district of Maharashtra. Police gave this information on Sunday.

The incident took place on Friday in Goteghar village within the limits of Shil-Daighar police station, an official said.

He said a group of angry villagers allegedly pelted stones at a JCB engaged in excavation work for laying power lines and threatened to commit suicide.

Senior Inspector Sandipan Shinde said that nine people have been booked under sections 336 (endangering life or personal safety), 341 (wrongful restraint), 427 (mischief causing damage to property) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code. A case has been registered under.

The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made, he said.
