Thane: Police have registered a case against six people who allegedly demanded Rs 15 lakh from a truck driver posing as journalists to allow his vehicle loaded with iron rods to pass through Thane in Maharashtra, a The officer gave this information on Sunday.

The incident occurred on Friday morning when the truck was going from Panvel in Navi Mumbai towards Jaipur in Rajasthan via Nhava Sheva Road.

An official of Kongaon police station said that the accused stopped the truck under a bridge at Rajnoli Naka in Bhiwandi area here at around 5 am.

He told that he introduced himself as a journalist and demanded Rs 15 lakh from the driver to allow the truck to proceed.

The truck driver later went to the police with a complaint, based on which an FIR was registered against six people, including two unidentified, under relevant provisions of the Indian Justice Code, the officer said.

Police said that the matter is being investigated.
