Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], A day after Amul increased the price of milk by Rs 2, customers expressed concern that prices increase after elections are over in the country.

The price of one liter pouch of Amul Taza milk, which was earlier Rs 54, has increased to Rs 56. Similarly, the price of Amul Gold which was earlier Rs 66, has increased to Rs 68.

The sudden price hike has drawn mixed reactions among consumers, especially the middle class, who are feeling the brunt of rising costs.

Many customers expressed disappointment over the price of rice and said even the Rs 2 increase had become a "burden for the middle class".A customer said, "As soon as the elections are over, they increase the prices. Even the road tax is increased. It becomes really difficult for the middle class. They don't have to increase the prices by Rs 2 immediately." They should increase it gradually."

Echoing the same sentiment, another customer commented, "After the elections, rates on everything are increasing, but we can't do anything about it".However, some people seemed unperturbed by the price hike.

Another customer commented, "An increase of Rs 1 or 2 doesn't make much difference. They need to run their business too. It probably wasn't enough for them earlier, so they increased the price."

Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), marketer of milk and milk products under the Amul brand name, has increased the prices of fresh pouch milk by about Rs 2 per liter from today in all markets across the country. In a statement, Amul said the Rs 2 per liter increase results in a 3-4 per cent increase in MRP, which is well below the average food inflation, adding that it has since then revised the prices of fresh pouch milk in key markets. There has been no increase in. February 2023.

It further said that the increase in prices is due to increase in the overall cost of operations and milk production. It said that our member unions have also increased the prices to farmers by about 6-8 percent compared to last year.

“Amul as a policy passes on approximately 80 paise of every rupee paid by consumers for milk and milk products to milk producers. The price revision will help our milk producers maintain remunerative milk prices and help them achieve higher milk production. Will help in encouraging." mentioned in the statement.
