The health department on Monday said 91 cases of Omicron's KP.2 variant have been reported so far in Mumbai, Maharashtra, including 51 cases in Pune.

This is in addition to the JN.1, KP.2 and KP.1.1 sub-variants of Omicron that have been reported in Maharashtra, said Dr Rajesh Karyakarte, state genome sequencing coordinator. He said that both KP.2 and KP.1.1 are sub-lineages of JN.1.

He said that 20 cases of KP.2 sub-variant of Omicron have been registered in Thane, seven each in Amravati and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, two in Solapur and one case each in Sangli Latur, Ahmednagar and Nashik. .

The health department said six new cases were reported in Maharashtra on Monday, including three each in Mumbai and Pune cities.
