81.71 per cent of the estimated 81.49 lakh eligible voters exercised their franchise in the elections held in four Lok Sabha constituencies in Guwahati, Assam on May 7. Officials gave this information on Wednesday.

An official said the final voting percentage could be further revised as the compilation of data is not yet complete.

All three phases of voting in Assam were peaceful, with no re-polling in the first two phases and none announced yet for the third phase.

Dhubri recorded the highest voter turnout of 86.80 percent, followed by Barpeta at 81.02 percent, Kokrajhar at 80.44 percent and Guwahati the lowest at 75.67 percent.47 candidates are in the fray in the final phase.



A total of 81,00,544 voters, including 41,00,544 men, 40,48,436 women and 111 third gender voters, were eligible to exercise their franchise at 9,516 polling stations.

The key candidates in the fray are AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal, who is contesting from Dhubri for the fourth consecutive time, and his rival and sitting Congress ML Rakibul Hussain, eight-time Assam Gana Parishad MLA and former minister Phanibhushan Chowdhury and sitting CPI(M) MLA Manoranjan is Talukdar. and Deep Bayan, Congress candidate from Barpeta.

In Kokrajhar, former BTC deputy leader of Bodo People's Front Kampa Borgoyeri and his rivals United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) Joyanta Basumatary and Congress candidate Garzen Mushari are in the fray.

In Guwahati, two women candidates, BJP's Bijuli Kalita Medhi and Meera Borthaku Goswami, are in direct contest.In this phase, Dhubri has the maximum number of voters at 26,63,987, while Kokrajhar has the least number of voters at 14,94,404.

In the first phase of voting held on April 19, 78.25 per cent voters exercised their franchise to decide the fate of 35 candidates for Kaziranga Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Sonitpur and Lakhimpur constituencies.

In the second phase held on April 26, 81.17 per cent voters cast their votes to decide the fate of 61 candidates from Karimganj, Silchar (SC) Diphu (ST), Nagaon and Darrang-Udalguri.

In the 2019 parliamentary elections, 81.55 percent voters exercised their franchise in all three phases of elections.

In the outgoing Lok Sabha, BJP had nine seats, Congress had three, AIUDF and one independent each had one seat from the state.
