Hyderabad: A 70-feet high 'eco-friendly' Ganesh idol will be installed at the famous pandal in Khairatabad here as part of the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations this year, MLA Danam Nagendra said on Monday.

Nagendra, who represents Khairatabad in the Assembly, said the 11-day celebrations would be organized on a large scale.

"When I met the chief minister yesterday, he said let's make arrangements on a larger scale than last year," said Nagendra, who recently quit BRS and joined the ruling Congress.

On behalf of the organizing committee, he thanked various government departments for their work in making the festival a success.

He said that 'Prasadam' would be distributed to every devotee coming to the pandal.

Nagendra also said that 'Katte Puja' was performed on Monday in connection with the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.

The pandal of Khairatabad in the city, known as 'Khairatabad Ganesh', has been famous in Telangana and neighboring Andhra Pradesh for many decades during the Vinayaka Chaviti festival for the huge size of the idol and other things.

Thousands of devotees visit the pandal during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
