KARACHI: At least seven people were killed after a speeding coaster lost control and overturned after hitting a footpath in Karachi.

Police said the accident occurred in Sindh province when a trailer took a U-turn and the coaster coming from behind collided with it and overturned.

He said the driver of the trailer ran away, while the driver of the coaster was also among the injured, Dawn newspaper reported.

Seven people, including women and children, died in the accident, the Express Tribune reported.

Emergency responders provided immediate medical attention to the injured. The bodies of the deceased have been shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for further legal procedures.

Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah expressed grief over those killed in the incident.

In a statement, he directed the administrations of CHK, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center and SMBB Institute of Trauma to provide best treatment to the injured passengers.

He also summoned a detailed report from Sindh Inspector General Ghulam Nabi Memon, ordering the police to take strict measures to prevent traffic accidents.

“The (driving) licenses of drivers who speed (vehicles) even on busy roads should be suspended. CM Shah was quoted as saying in the statement, speeding has not only taken the lives of innocent children but has also ruined happy homes.

On May 23, six people were killed and seven injured in a jeep accident in Liran village of Abbottabad.
