Agartala: Seven Bangladeshi nationals were arrested from Agartala railway station for entering India without valid documents. Police gave this information on Friday.

Acting on a tip-off, surveillance was increased at the station on Thursday and a group about to board a Kolkata-bound train was stopped.

Agartala GRP officer-in-charge (OC) Tapas Das said, "They could not show any valid documents to travel into India. Accordingly, we arrested seven people - three men and four women."

Bangladeshi documents, mobile phones and Indian currency notes were seized from them, he said.

“They had plans to visit cities like Bengaluru, Kolkata and Delhi,” he said.

More than 100 Bangladeshi nationals were arrested from Agartala railway station in the last two months, sparking concern among law-enforcement agencies.
