New Delhi [India], As many as 7,160 projects worth Rs 1,43,778 crore have been completed so far under the Smart Cities Mission, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs said on Tuesday, while another 854 projects by worth Rs 20,392 crore are in advanced stages. of completion.

The Center has released Rs 46,387 crore to 100 cities and 93 per cent of the released funds have been utilised, the ministry said.

"Today marks an important milestone as India celebrates the ninth anniversary of the Smart Cities Mission, launched on June 25, 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Over the past nine years, the mission has become a beacon of urban transformation, improving quality of life in 100 cities through over 8,000 multi-sectoral innovative projects valued at approximately Rs 1.6 lakh crore," the ministry said.

The Smart Cities Mission was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 25, 2015. The main objective of the mission is to promote cities that provide basic infrastructure, clean and sustainable environment and provide a decent quality of life to their citizens through the application of 'smart cities'. solutions."

"As on June 25, 2024, 7,160 projects worth Rs 1,43,778 crore have been completed and another 854 projects worth Rs 20,392 crore are in advanced stages of completion. The Government of India (GOI) has released Rs 46,387 crore to 100 cities. 93 per cent of the funds released from the Government of India have been utilised," the ministry added.

Among the key achievements of the Smart Cities Mission are the operation of Integrated Command and Control Centers (ICCC), installation of 76,000 CCTVs in 100 cities, installation of 1,884 emergency call booths and 3,000 public address systems.

The ministry further said that more than 6,800 kilometers of water supply systems are being monitored through SCADA, reducing non-revenue water and leaks.

"RFID has been enabled for automatic vehicle location (AVL) in around 4,800 vehicles in more than 50 smart cities to improve solid waste management, in addition to innovative technologies deployed to improve route management, collection and management. daily," the ministry said.

Under the smart cities mission, more than 50 lakh solar/LED street lights have been installed and more than 89,000 kilometers of underground electrical wiring has been constructed.

Under the mission, 12,300 kilometers of smart roads and more than 2,500 kilometers of cycle paths have been developed, along with the Intelligent Transport Management System (ITMS), which has streamlined traffic operations and travel times. .

In addition, 44,054 housing units and 6,312 rooms have been built so far in community housing projects such as Rain Basera, hostel (non-educational), night hostels, etc.

According to the ministry, more than 1,300 lake- or riverfront parks, green spaces and boardwalks have been or are being developed.
