The institute said the quake, which struck at 10.13 a.m. local time, occurred at a depth of 722 kilometers, about 133 kilometers southwest of the coastal city of Palembang, Xinhua news agency reported.

The quake was also felt in provinces around Mindanao, the country's second-largest island, including Davao Occidental, Davao Oriental, Sarangani, Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte and Cotabato.

The institute said that after the tectonic earthquake there will be tremors but there will be no damage. It says that the earthquake will not cause a tsunami.
