KATHMANDU: At least 62 people were killed and 90 others injured in rain-related incidents across Nepal in the last four weeks since the start of the monsoon season on Sunday, according to home ministry officials.

He said the main causes of these monsoon-related deaths are landslides, floods and lightning.

Of those killed, 34 people died due to landslides, while 28 died due to floods caused by incessant rains. Additionally, seven people are also reported missing in connection with these natural disasters, officials said.

Heavy rains and subsequent floods and landslides have also caused significant damage to property. At least 121 houses were submerged and 82 others were damaged. The natural disasters have displaced a total of 1,058 households across the country.

In response to the crisis, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has directed all state apparatus to give priority to the safety of lives affected by monsoon floods, landslides and floods.

During a briefing at the control room at Singha Durbar on Sunday, the Prime Minister directed all state agencies to focus on rescue and relief efforts for citizens affected by these natural disasters.

He urged all citizens to remain alert to potential disasters and called on political parties, civil societies and social organizations to cooperate in reducing disaster risks and ensuring the safety of citizens.
