Bhopal: In the third phase of general elections on Tuesday, at least 62.28 percent voters exercised their franchise in nine Lok Sabha seats of Madhya Pradesh till 5 pm.

Among the nine Lok Sabha seats, Rajgarh recorded the highest turnout of 72.08 percent, followed by Vidisha at 69.2 percent, Guna at 68.93 percent, Betu at 67.97 percent, Sagar at 61.7 percent, Bhopal at 58.42 percent, Gwalior at 57.86 percent. The official said that till 5 pm, 55.25 percent voting took place in Morena and 50.96 percent voting took place in Bhind.

Former chief ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Digvijay Singh and state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president V D Sharma were among the early voters.

Congress leader Digvijay Singh and Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who are contesting from Rajgarh and Guna respectively, will not be able to vote for themselves as the former is a registered voter from Bhopal, and the latter is registered to vote from Gwalior.Party sources gave this information.

BJP candidate from Vidisha seat Shivraj Singh Chauhan exercised his franchise along with his wife Sadhna Singh and two sons at a polling booth in his native village Jait in Sehore district.

Voting began at 7 am and will end at 6 pm at 20,456 polling stations, including 1,043 managed by women staff and 75 by disabled staff, an election official said.
